Women in Beauty: Interview with Abigail Laura

Hi Abigail! You have a great Instagram page where you offer skincare advice to your followers. Can you tell us a bit more about you?

Thank you! Well as you know my passion is skincare, but I’ve also always been into health and well-being. During the week I’m all about work, healthy eating and keeping active at the gym. However, come the weekend I’m a true foodie and love nothing more than having a bit of indulgence... it’s all about balance right?
I also LOVE traveling and exploring the world! I’m always looking at where my next little adventure is going to be.

I can tell you're really passionate about skincare and you've worked in the skincare industry for 10 years. How did you get into skincare?

As a little girl I was always fascinated by watching my mum apply her skincare. Then as soon as I was old enough, I started my own little regime.. even if it did start with a makeup wipe and Simple moisturiser (shock horror!). After finishing high school I went straight onto study Beauty Therapy for 2 years at college.

When I qualified I started by working in Spa’s and Salons for a few years, where I then realised I was more passionate about skin over anything else. From there I progressed to work for an advanced skincare company where my passion and knowledge only grew, and the rest is history!

What's your everyday morning skincare routine? What are your go-to products?

I like to try out other products and brands on a regular basis, but of course I have my “can’t live without” items! At the moment I’m loving my forever faithful Environ Vitamin A moisturiser combined with Image Vital C serum, they are the absolute dream team! In the morning I like to keep it simple, so I splash my face with cold water and then apply my serum and moisturiser before protecting with a skin friendly and SPF makeup.

What's your night time skincare routine? Do you have any go-to products?

I think taking my make-up off is one of my favourite times of the day! I always remove my makeup with a Magic Mitt from Jane Iredale and then double cleanse with a nourishing cream cleanser. I tone most evenings, and I also use this as my exfoliant - ensuring it contains AHA/BHA’s to nibble away at dead skin cells. After that I will apply a mask once a week and then follow on with an eye gel, serum and moisturiser.

A great go to evening product is Oskia Renaissance Mask, it’s super brightening and I always wake up with my skin glowing the next day!

It's getting colder now that winter is around the coming. Do you have any skincare tips for the winter time?

Absolutely! I always change up my routine throughout the seasons. If you are prone to dehydration/dryness in the winter I would highly recommend investing in a Hyaluronic Acid Serum. It’s extremely hydrating and anti ageing on the skin which is just what we need this time of year! Another must is to increase your intake of Omega fish oils- I take The Advanced Nutrition Programme Skin Omegas, which are specifically designed to treat the Dermis of the skin which means you’ll support your hydration from the inside out.

Korean Beauty is getting more popular among young women especially with social media driving its popularity. Have you tried any KBeauty?

To be honest, this isn’t something I’ve ventured into yet. Up until now, I’ve always been working with and using professional skincare which you can’t buy from the high street. But I’m now starting to explore what else is available and Korean Skincare is something I’m keen on finding out more about.

Have you thought about adding Korean Beauty into your routine?

It’s definitely something I would like to trial out, so I better get researching!

What kind of KBeauty products would you like to try first?

I’ve heard a lot about the KBeauty Sheet Masks, so I think that’s quite high on my list!

Finally, if you could only use one type of skincare product, what would it be and why? (e.g.. cleanser, exfoliation, serums, moisturisers, oils, essence, toners)

Oh wow, this is tough! If I HAD to chose, I would say a Vitamin A moisturiser. Vitamin A is as vital for our skin as oxygen is to us breathing! It normalises the skin, naturally exfoliates, stimulates collagen, protects and locks in moisture.... the list goes on- it will always be number 1 on my list!
