KBeauty Stars of Instagram: Interview with Elaine (@maskepedia)

Hey Elaine! It's so wonderful having you in my interview series about Kbeauty bloggers on Instagram!  Your IG page (@maskepdia) shows just how dedicated you are to face sheets!

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?

Hi Emilie! I’m 31 and I live in the USA but I’m originally from Singapore. I’m a new mom to a furkid and I enjoy watching him blossom everyday.

How did you first discover the world of KBeauty?

I was a subscriber of Birchbox and I discovered K-beauty when they collaborated with Charlotte Cho and Soko Glam to curate products for 2016 January’s box. I fell in love with Goodal’s Waterest First Essence and the Tony Moly Delight Tony Tint. So, I decided to dive down the K-beauty rabbit hole and never turned back since.

What was it that got you obsessed with Kbeauty?

I was intrigued by the concept of skincare as a form of ritualistic self-care and not a chore. I believe that the synergy of inner and outer wellness is the reason I started seeing amazing results when I use Kbeauty products. I also love how gentle and affordable they are.

Your IG features so many face sheets! :) You must have tried hundreds or thousands by now. Do you notice a difference between Korean and Western face sheets?

I have combo-dehydrated skin and Korean sheet masks suit my skin better for the light yet intense hydration they give. I find that Western sheet masks are better suited for dry skin since they are more moisturizing.

What's your everyday morning skincare routine?

Since I’m recovering from a bout of facial eczema, my current routine is very simple, focusing on light layers and calming products. Lastly, the routine ends with a layer of sun screen. My all-time favorites are Isntree Pine Needles Enzyme Powder Wash for its gentleness; CosRx Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner for soothing and hydration; Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream for calming redness and sealing in the watery layers; and A’pieu Pure Block Aqua Sun Gel for a light yet effective protection against UV rays.

What's your everyday makeup routine like?

My everyday makeup routine is also very simple since I’m always in a hurry to get out of the house. But I must have my brows and lips for they instantly transform me from a walking dead to a human being. My go-to are NYX Micro Brow Pencil and a tinted lip balm from Nivea. Sometimes when I can spare an extra minute or two, I’ll lightly line my eyes with the brow pencil #lazypeopleunite

What's your night time skincare routine?

My night time skincare routine focuses on, again calming and hydration, but with added moisture. I use the same products from my morning routine and top it off with a sleeping mask. Recently, I’m really enjoying Etude House Soon Jung Sleeping Pack. It’s scentless, gentle, and very thick.

If you were to recommend 5 Kbeauty products for a friend who's never tried KBeauty before, what 5 products would they be?

When it comes to introducing something new to your skin, I recommend starting with toner and sheet masks. They are usually affordable allows the skin to get a feel of the quality and efficacy without having to dive in too deep. Plus, classic items are a sure hit since so many users have given them the nod of approval.

  1. Sheet masks from brands that target sensitive skin like Klairs, Manyo Factory, Benton, and Isntree
  2. Benton Snail Bee High Content Skin
  3. Manyo Factory Herb Green Fresh Lotion
  4. Laneige Water Sleeping Mask Lavender
  5. Missha All Around Safe Block Essence Sun - SPF 45

Since you've tried so many face sheets, what are your top 3 sheets for KBeauty newbies?

Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Tencel Sheet Mask, Isntree Real Rose Calming Mask, Papa Recipe Green Squeeze Relaxing Mask
